The Baraga County Chamber of Commerce was officially born on October 30, 2003, when the Board of Directors was elected.  Our purpose is to advance the general welfare and prosperity of the Baraga County Area so that it's citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper.  All necessary means of promotion shall be provided and particular attention and emphasis shall be given to the economic, civic, commercial, cultural, industrial and educational interests of the area.

Baraga County was formed in 1875 when the state legislature approved its formation (you can read more on our history at: www.baragacountyhistoricalmuseum.com). It consists of 904.16 square miles (578,664 acres) of land area and 164.40 square miles (105,217 acres) of water area.  As of the 2000 Census our population totaled 8,746.

Baraga County is bordered by Houghton County to west, Iron County to the south, and Marquette County to the east, with Lake Superior bordering approximately 75% of its northern shore.

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has land holdings of approximately 54,00 acres, 19 miles of Lake Superior shoreline, 3,000 acres of wetlands, and 80 miles of rivers on the L'Anse Indian Reservation.
